This album is a conceptual piece about one of the deepest points on our planet's surface, the Kermadec trench. Despite the gargantuan levels of pressure, isolation, oxygen scarcity, and darkness, life still flourishes. While this life is so strange in its form and manner to us that it might as well have originated from outer space, it also conveys awe, reminding us that life can and will manifest itself where ever, and however.

The songs' eerie, discordant passages evoke the suffocating and pitch-black atmospheres of these underwater labyrinths. And assuming life on Earth's surfaces and shallow waters become rendered nonviable due to the cataclysmic effects of nuclear war and climate change, it is likely that one of the few places left where life could hold out will be in one of these trenches– thousands of meters below sea level, submerged under the ocean's crushing weight, eternally engulfed in darkness.
